I'm gonna build a nice gaming rig that i would like to last me at least 3 or more years, so the only doubt i have is about the gpu. I'm gonna use it mainly for gaming mild to hardcore 1080 resolution, mild overclock, and internet surfing
I have to choose from a 280x that it's a pretty good card, i think it will last 1 or 2 more years in ultra- high resolutions it's also a cheap card so i could spend less and have more money in my wallet.
The r9 290 i heard is a good card it almost reaches the gtx 780 performance but runs really hot and really really loud i'm ready to wait for the non reference cooled r9 290 card but when will those cards come out? I'm not gonna wait till september for them.
The gtx 780 is the one i'm more inclined to buy, is a good card, the super jetstream i choose for my build reaches titan levels but will it perform on ultra- high in 2-3 years from now? i'm not so sure about it.
I would like some suggestions on this hard decision
My rig has: i5 4670k/ asus z87- pro/ 8 gb ripjawsx/ xfx 750 xxx edition

well..it's worth waiting 1-2 months for 50- 100€..
actually 290 is slightly faster than 780..even in reference cooling..(95'c, throttling etc..)
and like other poster said, "when 290 properly cooled", it'll be as fast as titan..
when you overclock it (and this one very overclockable), it'll be as fast as fastest card today..780Ti..

just wait, and save your money..:D

r9 290 non reference cooler..is the answer..
this card is awesome (for the price)..almost as fast 290x/Titan,very overclockable and when you overclock it, it'll be same level (or more) with 780Ti,..(and don't forget about mantle)..

an aftermarket 290 is superior to the 780.

the 290x and 780ti are also tied for performance clock for clock when properly cooled.

when the 290 and 290x are properly cooled they perform better at default clocks than when running hot at default clocks without throttling.

Well i tought about the 780ti but it's waaaay over my budged and it's like 200€ more then the gtx 780 so i'm probably not gonna buy the later one, so probably the answer is the 290 or the 780 but it's worth waiting 1-2 months for 50- 100€? will it outperform the 290 by a big margin? will it be more futureproof then the 780?

the 290 when properly cooled performs the same and will out perform the 780 when playing games made with the mantle api by a nice margin, some say a minimum of 20% for games converted to mantle.

when the 290 and 780 are clocked the same.
