Hi,
I am thinking of building my own pc soon and am in the process of figuring out my needs as regards parts. I want to build the simplest PC for my needs but one which will last for years if possible.
Present usage
Normal use – mail, tekst, spreadsheets.
Financial – Internet banking and other financial transactions (need speed)
Storing films and playing from PC to HDTV
Future use
Possible Foto and video editing.
Possible storage music library
Certainly no gaming ever.

As a noobie I ´d like advice on:
Is the fan provided with Intel Cor i3/i5/ i7 sufficient or is an extra cooler needed to start with?
Is a Graphic card necessary or is the on-board graphics sufficient?
Idem for a sound card?
For playing films to HDTV, is a TV-card needed?

Any other tips you have would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Yes the stock HSF(heat sink fan) provided with CPU is enough for your need. They are decent in work.

GPU (graphics card) would be a better choice if you want to do editing jobs later, and the picture quality will be better for movies with a GPU, but not a must needed thing for you. On-board graphics will do the job.

No need for a sound card, Mother Boards (MB) has decent quality integrated sound chips.

No need for a TV-Tuner card as well. Just make sure to buy a MB which has a inbuilt HDMI port. This will help you watch movies from PC to HDTV.

And you will need a large HDD for storage purpose, like movie and music library. A 2TB HDD will be a good choice.

Good luck.

I'll try and answer your questions:

1. Unless you are or will be overclocking the CPU, the heatsink/fan that comes with it will work fine. There are only a few reasons to get an aftermarket CPU cooler,
a) You are or will be overclocking the CPU
b) You are wanting the quietest build, most aftermarket coolers run quieter than the stock coolers
c) You have a window on your case and are trying to make your build more aesthetically pleasing

2. For most of your needs a dedicated GPU should not be necessary, the cpu's integrated graphics should suffice. However, you will need to check the recommended specs for the programs you will be using. As long as none of them are heavy on graphics needs, no additional GPU should be needed.

3. Most newer motherboards come with adequate onboard sound and can deliver 2.0, 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1 sound via the motherboards rear audio outputs. How good the audio will be is dependent upon which motherboard you select. I'd recommend using what the motherboard provides to start with, a sound card can be added later if the onboard sound proves to be insufficient.

4. A TV tuner card is only necessary if you are planning to use the computer as a source of broadcast (antenna/cable/satellite) televison. You may want to look into specialized media playing software such as CyberLink DVD Player or Arcsoft, but they should not be a necessity.
