Hey there freindo's, let me just start of by apologizing if this post is in the wrong thread.

Now that's out of the way, my friend needs to upgrade his pc, his current specs are:
AMD 4100 Bulldozer
AMD Radeon 6850
8gb Ram (Unkown Make)
650w Corsair PSU
Windows 8 pro 64bit
2TB HDD

As I'm sure you're all aware Christmas is creeping ever closer, after christmas he intends to upgrade it. The budget is roughly £100 give or take £20 (not a huge budget but enough for one upgrade)...

So my question to you is... What would be the best component to upgrade and why?

My personal opinion is to upgrade to a 6300/6350 processor, buuuut the R6850 is not the best card however any gpu upgrade would just be bottlenecked by the processor. Hooowever the R6850 is nearly dead from all the dust gathering up inside it is causing it to run hot. We recently cleaned the whole pc and knocked off about 25oC on the gpu (it WAS running at 71oC!!!!!)

His pc is mainly for gaming and at the moment it's struggling to achieve the frame rates it should be getting. Any input is greatly appreciated. :D

Upgrading CPU is much needed get a FX 6300 for a sell of current CPU!
6850 is one good GPU and can last long for few more time easily..!

again if there is a value you can get off from sale of GPU as from stated above you may need a change in a little time again though so upgrading now will be worth , a R9 270 , 7850, R9 270x etc,,

however GPU if properly cleaned may help you ensuring its health, you can do some stress tests..

Yeah I think upgrading the cpu would be best, we'll probably deconstruct the gpu and clean up the heatsink and reapply the thermal paste. Hopefully this will breathe new life into it. He's also going to invest in a new case with better ventilation.

He runs two monitors not sure about the res, they don't look 1080p but I think they probably are. Yeah they can be purchased used, but If we put in a 7850 he would gain a small benefit in fps due to the processor bottlenecking. I think we'll upgrade his cpu, case etc... then sell the old cpu and case and see where that puts us, he might just need to wait before a gpu upgrade.
