hey guys i am going to build a new gaming pc. i have a gtx 770 and i am about to get the rest of the components in the next week. I want to buy a futureproof cpu so I need an 8 core or 8 threaded cpu. I just cant decide. the 2 options are: amd fx 8320, asus m5a97 evo r2.0, cooler master seidon 240m, ocz zt 650w psu. and the other option is: i7 3770k, asus p8z77-v lx and the ocz zt 650w psu. both of these options are 500 euros. I didnt chose haswell cause is more expensive and if i buy the i7 3770k build, i will get the cooler master seidon 240m later when i get more money. What do you suggest me guys? please help me.. thanks in advance

Solution

Then trust me, an i5 4670k or i5 3570k will be more than enough for gaming.
Use the saved money to upgrade anything else!

What are the uses of the build? Only gaming or are you going to render/edit?

I thought that mantle will only be used on amd graphics cards. Will I be able to use mantle if I have an AMD cpu and an NVidia gpu??

Well current graphic API's cannot utilize the CPU efficiently, they are limited in how many cores and threads can be used. Mantle is not limited to AMD GPU's, however it remains to be seen if Intel CPU's can take advantage!

The i7 also has 4 cores. The Hyperthreading technology is only useful in some situations, like Adobe CS, and other editing/rendering stuff. For gaming, it is practically useless, but there's is some difference, of course. Get the i5 and buy some better components.

which one would you recommend between 3570k and 4670k. If i go for haswell it will be more expensive

Mantle is billed as an API for GCN which are graphic card cores not CPU cores and as no one has seen it working yet it's all speculation but considering the problems BF4 has and AMD not able to get driver fixes out before Jan 2014 I wouldn't hope for too much if I were you.

Neverind.. I dont want to buy an i5 because I know I will regret it.. lets just talk about 3770k and the fx 8320. I am planning to overclock both of them as much as I can with the cooler master seidon 240m. So is it really worth it the extra money and get the i7?

If your concern is performance, how will you regret the i5 but now the 8320?

I would but then I gave up on AMD CPU's after the 939 U-turn and backstab!

Because I am worried that upcoming games will use more than 4 cores and the 8320 will benefit more and become more powerful than the i5

I wouldn't worry about the cores. An i5 is better than the 8320 and it will continue to be. The important is not the number of cores, but what kind of cores they are. And even if future games started to use 8 cores, the 8320 would be very outdated by that time.

I guess you are right.. what do you think if i go with i5 3570k and asus p8z77-v lx?? if i go with haswell will be more expensive.. the cpu is about the same price but the motherboard with z87 chipset is more expensive than the z77. Also will I be able to overclock it to 4.5GHz with cooler master seidon 240m??

Not really, the ASRock Z87 Extreme4 is just $110 right now. I say go for it, it is a very good board and is Haswell based.

Thanks mate! it is a very nice looking board too! :p Can you also suggest me a cooler to overclock the i5 to 4.5Ghz please? I can't install a big air cooler because I have a corsair vengeance ram with tall heatsinks. That's why I am thinking about AIO coolers like the cooler master seidon 240m.

Even if you have the best cooler possible, you may not be able to get 4.5 GHz due to manufacturing defects when you're making things as small as CPUs. Overclocking is more about how much voltage your CPU can withstand, and not all CPUs are made equally. Of course, if your CPU is stable at 4.5 GHz but your cooler is limiting you (85C+ at load) then you would lower your clock.
