I'd have to agree with popatim,

With this build it should only require 500w PSU and 600-700w would ensure him to be able to upgrade later at some point.

My Specs:
FX 8120 8-core @ 4.1
Antec Kuhler 920
Sabertooth 990FX
ASUS GTX560 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
Kingston 2GB x 4 12800
Samsung 840 Series SSD 250GB
2 x 7200RPM HDD 1=160GB 1=320GB
2 x 9 LED Strip
2 x 12' Cold Cathode lights
ect ect. More but don't feel like typing it all.....

Anyways the point of me giving my specs is to tell you with all this and @ 100% CPU load and 7GB out of 8GB of RAM 100% load my PC only uses under 400w. I know the 780 is more powerful just giving an example. How i know is i have a back-ups machine that tells me the load watts drawn, It stays around 385w...

Gtx 780 will support your pc, no doubt. But usually in these kinda questions people mention only their hardware for ex : motherboard, cpu, current gpu, ram, etc.
But looking at your cpu I can guess what kind of motherboard you will be having. And with that I can say gtx 780 will support your pc.

Would getting the GTX 770, 670, or 680 be as demanding on the power supply?

Yes, you still need the good PSU for the games GPU, as I say the PSU in your PC is not good enough, here is some info for the good PSU, just don't cut corners for the PSU. You can open the case check the model of PSU then google it to see other people or some review for it. Like the review said: " If you don't like our advice, Buy a fire extinguisher...... "

gtx780 comes no where near needing 42a (504w). Someone should read the link they posted a little better. LoL

I would suggest a quality 500w PSU, 600w if overclocking the cpu, 700w if overclocking the cpu and gpu.

Of course if you find a power supply with higher output than you need on a good sale then go ahead and get it, they only make the power they need. ie - a 1000w Psu in a system using 400w will only create 400w with total power drawn from the outlet a bit higher depending on PSU efficiency.

So 500w would be plenty, if not planning to OC.

So answering this question: If you have at least a 500w power supply this set up will work no problems.

BUT: DON'T GO CHEAP ON POWER SUPPLY REMEMBER IT POWERS ALL THAT EXPENSIVE HARDWARE! Get 80 Plus Certified one and you should be fine.
