So, I know very little about bitcoin mining. Basically, exactly what is on the BitCoin Wiki, but I think BitCoins are an interesting investment. In addition to that, I'm looking for a new hobby and have some money to burn. All year I have been researching building computers and I think I'm ready, so I want to throw myself into the fire and see if I can build two kickass systems. One for BitCoin mining primarily(I understand that this typically makes your system useless due to running the mathematical processes constantly) and the other for everyday use, including gaming. I'm not a heavy gamer, but there are some games I want to play(Rome 2, Final Fantasy, maybe BF4) that I'd like to play on Very High settings at least.

I do have a budget for the systems. I'd rather not pay more than $1500-$2000 a system. That can be used however we like, maybe the gaming is $3000 and the bitcoin miner is $1000 or whatever. Like I said, though, I'm not a heavy gamer, but when I do play I want it to look awesome haha, So, the latest and greatest i7 CPU and Titan GPU is not really what I'm looking for. I want the best value for my money and I'm not going to get that with a $1k GPU haha.

Also, I'm not really sure where to start my BitCoin build. I believe it takes a lot of GPU juice, which in turn will need a lot of power as well. My concern with this is how long it'll take me to make my money back. I want a machine that is energy efficient, but is able to compute at a high rate, so I'll make up my investment money faster.

This is what I have for my gaming build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2jYQx

CPU - Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Cooler - not sure where to go here as I am not planning on OCing right away, but I love the mobo and I know it's pretty awesome for OCing, so let me know what you think.
Mobo - Asus MAXIMUS VI FORMULA ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory - Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage - Samsung 840 Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Disk and Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card or 770, I could go either way. I think every other card out there is too overpriced for what you get out of it, but let me know if I'm wrong. I do want to stick with Nvidia and not interested in SLI initially. I might add a second card within 6 months if I feel I'll benefit.
Case - Corsair 500R Black ATX Mid Tower Case. I could literally go any direction here. I'm not a very show off kind of guy, so I was thinking of the Fractal Design R4 or the Corsair C70. I heard the R4 had some airflow issues and I was turned off pretty quickly.
PSU - Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply - I was thinking SeaSonic too. I guess Corsair isn't great for PSU's? I really couldn't care less here as long as it powers my system enough. Fully modular would be nice, so I can clean up the case, but I really don't see any fault for going semi(my understanding is that semi will connect the cables that I'll definitely use, CPU power, GPU power etc.).
OS - Windows 7
Monitor - Asus VH238H 23.0" Monitor - need a new monitor. I'd like a nice one. If you know of a better one let me know. I just picked this because it has connected speakers, but knowing the Formula mobo has fantastic audio maybe I should buy some nice external speakers.

My thought with the CPU is that i7 is not really something I think I need. I heard the i7 is more of a server CPU, but if you think the i5 will bottleneck my system let me know.

basic asics will do 30GH/s you'll be lucky to get 200-300MH/s from GPU's with AMD being better than Nvidia, and GPU's using a lot more power than Asics, it's not worth it, consider next gen asics, but they are always on pre-order and by the time they arrive the goalposts move.

Cool. This is interesting. Now, would you recommending building a gaming computer with the ASICs or build an entirely separate computer for mining? I'll have to do a lot more research on ASICs, but just so I know what to expect and the endgame. I'd like to get into mining. It seems like right now it would take a long time for me to recoup my investment even with ASICs. However, because the value fluctuates so much I may be able to take advantage pretty quickly.

Also, does anyone have an opinion on my gaming build?

You seem pretty experienced and I appreciate your help. What is your overall view of mining BitCoin? Are you getting what you expected out of it? Also, do you suggest that I post my gaming build in another post?

post as a gaming only topic.
I brought a 30GH/s unit from butterfly knowing that it might be pointless, at the time I ordered it (half price) I could have made significant amounts of cash. Now It'll take me 3 months to break even, the difficultly has become so much higher than I expected (my worst case was on the order of 100 million, its currently at 700 million) . All of the units you can buy are oversubscribed, and pre orders so generally if you order it now it'll be delivered in 3-4 months time during which time the difficulty will be so much higher than it would be pointless. (I ordered April 1st, delivered november).

GPU mining is only useful to keep your room warm and make profits for the electric companies.

I can relate to you. I'm a heavy gamer too but one thing for sure—a single PC will not work to get bulky mathematical labor in a greater quantity. I suspect you upgrade your GPU to 50 GH/s Bitcoin Miner. Is that ok with you?
