How to choose a ES version i7-4960X?

Hi, everyone
I found some sellers who can provide me with ES version 4960Xs, but I still have some questions about stepping.
1. What is the stepping of "Box version 4960X s"?
2. Most reviews in Sep. were using S1/S0 ES version, but the ones I can get are R0/R1 steppings, would it be a big problem?
3. The sellers claim that the default clocking is 2.9Ghz, but they can ensure that overclocking to 4.5Ghz is not a problem as long as I am using a MSI motherboard. Why it has to be MSI? I thought ASUS is the best...
Thank you, guys!

Solution
I'm not quite sure of your info , the default clock of the i7-4960x is 3.6 ghz , anything less would not be something I would want. I have the Asus Rampage and a 3960k and this board has a preset gamer overclock of 4.7 ghz. The new Asus Rampage Black is said to overclock the 4960x past that to almost 5 ghz with little effort.
I've had a MSI board and the overclocking is nowhere near an Asus board.

Thanks for your reply!
The default clock is 2.9Ghz because these are engineering samples of 4960X.
Also because these are ES CPUs, the compatibility with certain motherboard bios varies, so, the ASUS preset overclocking may not work( I am just guessing)

Hi there ,
I recently purchased this exact same ES CPU , off eBay (it has the same screenshots you posted here).
I am still waiting for delivery (should be in the next week or so) , but the Seller gave me similar feedback to you.He says this ES is not compatible with ROG series boards , but with any other x79 manufacturer.
My guestimate is that these chaps are playing dumb , or are not aware that a bios upgrade IS required on older x79 platforms ; in order to be compatible with this chip.
You get what you pay for basically. For half the price of a retail chip , if this can do 4.5 - 4.6 Ghz , I'll be happy , but I won't cry if it only manages 4.2 - 4.4 Ghz.The Seller says I also have a 1 year guarantee. It will be interesting should I ever need to make use of this.
If it's allowed , my personal email address is ircraig@hotmail.com , if you would like to chat in private , compare notes , etc.
Regards
Craig

I forgot to add ; if you look at the screenshot of HWiNFO64 , it clearly identifies the CPU as a Xeon-2900 , and I expressly asked the Seller if this was a Xeon or a 4960x CPU (apparently the word is that the extreme CPU's are server chips to some extent). He assured me it is a 4960x CPU.Time will tell.Did you buy one ? Are you happy ?
