As the title says, I'm on a budget and 2nd hand i7 920s and 930s look like my best option. Im upgrading from a fx 4100 and my GPU is a gtx 670.

I plan on playing games like bf4, planet side 2, final fantasy 14. But the most demanding game will probably be battlefield 4.

My other option would be to buy a fx 6300 however my experience with the 4100 has put me of the fx series.

Thanks a lot for the help!

You really shouldn't buy such old components like those i7s. They are not supported anymore, and you will have some trouble. Since you have to buy a new motherboard, why not get a 4th gen CPU like the i5 4670k with a good Z87 motherboard, like the ASRock Z87 Extreme4?
But still, if you're on a budget, you should buy an FX CPU like the 6300 or the 8320

As much as I would love to, my budget simply wont allow me to spend more that £100-150 on a cpu+mobo. :/ and I cant see myself running into money any time soon.

Then just buy an FX-8320 for £110: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX8320-Edition-4-0GHz-Socket/dp/B009O7YU56
That's a very nice upgrade :)

If you want a budget motherboard, that's not hard: Asus M5A97 LE.
If you want something more substancial with more features and more overclocking capabilities, there are always the Asus M5A99FX or M5A99X or the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

That's a very nice motherboard too. Yes, with those CPU and GPU, you will get playable frames on at least medium, but I'm not sure :)

fx 6300 is a good processor it wasnt made well also the fx series improve with windows 8 onwards the tech is new so microsoft windows 7 is a bit dense. piledriver is improved over bulldozer which is your current.

id stay away from asrock extreme 3 more like asrock extreme flop. mine died after 3 boot ups.

Sorry to awaken an old thread but you will be hard pressed to find a good motherboard at a decent price for a i7 920 or 930 speaking from experience I might add. I would go with the newer tech but get the highest and newest FX series cpu you can get to get the best for your money. That is all. :D
