A day or so ago I began hearing static/crackling noises from my desktop case. I traced it to the small system speaker at the bottom of the case that emits the POST beeps at startup. No problems are associated with this static noise so far and it is totally random as far as I can tell, it is not coincident with mouse movements, keyboard use or any other interaction with the system.
I did a Google search for this condition but almost all of the returns deal with static in the audio playback speakers, which is NOT a problem. It is only in the system case speaker. Any clues as to what might be causing this?
