Hello there, im a complete noob when it comes to sound stage. Ive been using the on board sound of my z77 extreme4 mobo with some Turtle Beach x12s that ive had from my xbox days and they work great. However, i know i can have better sound and its finally time to upgrade.

I know NOTHING when it comes to soundcards so ANY help will be appreciated. The headphones i was thinking of getting where the AD700X as im hearing they have AMAZING positional audio, which will come in real helpful since i mostly play FPS.. Now which soundcard will be the best? The Phoebus or Titanium? Ive seen a lot of people recommend the Essense STX, but that was when the Phoebus first came out and it had a bunch of driver issues..

Im running windows 8.1 if that makes a difference.

Do you think something like the DG will work just fine? Are these $150+ soundcards worth it? Some people say yes, other say no, i would like your guys opinion .

Honestly you will see absolutely ZERO difference between your on board audio and a $150 sound card.

You would need a $250+ set of 8.1 surround headphones to even be able to hear any difference at all.

you do not need a sound card at all.

Yeah I agree, you will not notice any difference between the sound card and the onboard audio.
