Use Windows 7, Word 7, Firefox. Tried to delete a file from C:/ file. When I closed the screen, most desktop icons were "Word's" icons (still have the original name underneath icon). When you try to open one, you get a pop-up saying "file conversion - firefox - select the encoding that make the document readable".
I looked at the Default Program list and chose Firefox to use to open all files - but nothing changed. What now? Help & Thanks.

Sounds like you were playing around with default programs options. Try doing a restore to a date before this happened. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/fe...

What are the icons that changed, web links? Or program shortcuts? If the restore does not work and you are just talking about web links here, you can set the default program manually http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2630-default-progr...

If you chose Firefox to open ALL files, you made a mess and probably will have to restore quite a few things back to how they were. Read though this posting http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/window...
