I have a desktop running Windows 7 but uses and older(XP Era) Wireless G USB Adapter from D-Link(Model WUA-2340). Before now I had no problems with this setup(aside from the slower data transfer speed limit of the Wireless G Protocol). However recently I was given a new modem from my ISP. Before I had a DSL Modem running into a Linksys Wireless N router(can't remember the model number.)

After setting up the new DSL Modem which is Wireless equipped I have been riddled with problems on my desktop. I can acquire the networks signal and connect to it(Very Strong Signal Strength.) and it will register that I have internet access. Every now and again I can pull up a couple of webpages before my internet will drop to a point where I will get timeout errors trying to load the Google Search Engine page. It will register that I still have internet access but I will go through spells lasting multiple hours of not being able to load a webpage at all.

Before I upgraded my modem to the new on I had nothing of this sort happen. I'm wondering if I should switch back to my Modem + Router Setup to try and fix the problem or if I should just upgrade my USB Adapter to a newer style Linksys Wireless N Adapter.

I recieved the new modem from my ISP when I raised a concern that the Internet would drop frequently throughout the day. They said that the other Modem was out of date and may be going out and gave me the new one as a replacement and so far it has fixed the Internet Service drops problem but I cannot do anything on the internet with my Desktop.

Smartphones and Laptops at my house can access the new WiFi Equipped Modem with no problems at all, but my Desktop cannot seem to load the internet webpages at all. Every other device in my home boasts fast connection speeds and very low load times any webpages that I visit.

Is my Wireless G Adapter truly to blame for the problem or is there something that I'm missing?

My "router" is a DSL Modem with built in Wireless capability. After logging into the Modem's configuration page and navigating to the Wireless settings there is no option to change the WAP to G+N. Based on the evidence I see the DSL Modem is run exclusively on Wireless N.

It will be a Modem/Router/WAP. I highly doubt anyone builds a modem with wireless but no router; it would be pointless, because you could only use one device at a time. The router bit makes all your devices share one IP.

Chances are it's backwards compatible by default; I haven't yet found one that isn't. What model is it?

Are you sure you can't run a cable?
