I'm just wondering what is the difference?

AMD FX 8350 or Inge, i5 4670K

One is an 8 core the other is only a four core at lower speed yet the i5 is more expensive?

The I5 is more expensive because it's Intel, and Clock-per-clock performance is better. And it's more power efficient. They perform almost equally on gaming, although the i5 wins sometimes and the AMD wins others. But if you want to be future-proof, I'd say go with AMD, as more and more games in the future will be able to use more of the cores.

if you care about benchmarks Intel but in terms of gaming performance the i5 excels

The 8350 is better at MT workloads. The i5 is better at singlethread workloads. So in terms of cores. Anything using 4 or fewer cores will perform better on the i5, anything using 6 will be decently even. And 8 will favour the 8350. However, in terms of clock for clock the i5 when overclocked to the same frequency will perform almost as good in fully MT loads.

As most things do not use 6 threads the i5 will generally be better. The 8350 is cheaper however.
