Ethernet Controller? What?

When I plug my Ethernet cord into the ethernet socket in the back of my computer, nothing happens and when I go to device manager, it says that my ethernet controller needs a driver. Does the ethernet controller effect my ethernet connection? Do I need it to connect to the Internet? Motherboard: Asus m5a78l-m lx plus

install the motherboard lan driver.

You need a driver for every piece of hardware in your system to let the OS (whether its Windows, Mac OS or Linux) understand how to use it. If you have the driver disk that came with the motherboard use that or use another PC that connect to the internet to download the driver from here

yes,you do need your ethernet controller to conncect to the internet. if its an asus computer you can go to the asus site for your drivers.

if its not a brand name build go to your controllers manufacturers site. windows will also search for and install your driver.go to device manager and right click your ethernet controller and choose update driver software.
