Is the R9 270X a good upgrade?

Is the R9 270X a good upgrade from the 6850? If you have any better recommendations that would be great!

My Specs:

Radeon 6850
MOBO:m5a97 r2.0
Phenom II 955 Black Edition
8 GB of RAM 1333 MHz
Antec HCG-620M (620 Watt)

At the $200 price range the R9 270X is your best upgrade.

If you can still find deals on the 7870's around 160-170 those would be a touch better still bang for buck wise.

Yes the r9-270x is a very good upgrade from the 6850 since it is four levels above the 6850. You can use the chart below to see the difference.

Agreed. The 270x is a fine choice for 1080p gaming on a budget. If $20-$30 is a big deal to you, you can get the normal 270 and OC yourself. Also, the 7870 is a great idea if you can find one. Practically the same card, only ever-so-slightly worse. But can often run at a lower price range since it's older.

The new R9 series probably has better memory chips, allowing higher memory overclocks. Also the R9 270 is a great deal, especially if you can get it with BF4.

a 7870 and 270X are not the same. a the 270x is actually slightly worse than a 7950. and 7870's are really high right now for 200-230, you can get a 270x. the devil is 219$ right now and that is a deal!!!!!!! so yes its a upgrade!

You are looking at to many benchmarks, it is the exact same silicon, the only difference is clockspeeds. A 7870 could easily overclock to the R9 270X, other then the memory (which I mentioned already).

Well guys, I picked up the Sapphire Dual X 270x OC edition and the card runs great. The design is sleek and the performance is amazing. It came with BF4 for only twenty dollars extra. I would recommend picking this card up if you have an AMD build! Thank you for all the help!
