For a triple monitor set-up what is the difference between using an HDMI or a DP? I plan on getting a GTX 770 and I currently have an Acer H236HL bid and plan on getting two more in the near future, but it lacks DP, how should I go about this?

Solution
you need a display port to HDMI adapter. Display port allows 4 monitors with a splitter (MST) off one port. It uses different signals than HDMI, but you can adapt between them (for a single monitor per DP). You may need an active adapter (I did with HD7950), which are more expensive of course.
MST DP to multiple DVI/HDMI are still expensive, rare and have compatibility issues.
