I'm looking into getting into litecoin mining since I have free electricity at my dorm. Currently, my rig consists of 8gb ram, overclocked 8320, 1 7200rpm hard drive, 6 fans including the heatsink, 750w seasonic power supply, and a 7850. At the moment, I'm considering either getting another 7850 for crossfire or adding a 7970 with my 7850. Would 750w watts suffice?

Also, I still use this rig for gaming. How would I go about gaming with a 7970 with a 7850 that just sits there?

750 watts would be cutting it close but a 850-1000 should be great :D

You can't crossfire HD 7850 and HD 7970 together. You can however crossfire HD 7870 with your HD 7850.

750W is more than enough.

750w PSU should be sufficient given that it is at least bronze labeled. I run an overclocked phenom with 6950 CF and never had any power issues.

Do you think underclocking the 8320 will free up enough watts?

It should be fine if you're only using a pair of 7850s, or if you stop mining on the 7850 while gaming on a 7970.

That was the only reason I suggested a higher wattage PSU, overclocking takes up more watts so yes it would free up some space for the new GPU, and could you check how much power your PC is using right now?

I'm not too sure how I would check the current power usage. When gaming I would only be using the 7970 and would not be mining. So when mining, I'm assuming the cpu isn't being used too much, so it is plausible to use a 7970?

750W is plenty for a FX chip and 7970, and we can ignore the 7850.

When mining, we can basically ignore the CPU.

Given I'd have no issues with a 7970 on even a 550W PSU, you're fine. Should even be fine to mine while gaming.
