Looking to replace my processor on my laptop

Currently I have a "HP DV6-6000 AMD Laptop Motherboard/Mainboard 665282-001." The processor is built into it. I have found some motherboards that match and don't have the processor built in. One was a "socket FS1" and one was a "socket LGA 1366." I am having a hard time figuring out which processor will work. I have found processors with those sockets, and was wondering what the factors I need to know are.
I found one with the "LGA 1366" socket, and a i7 processor that says "LGA 1366."
Does that mean it will work? I know it says AMD motherboard. So does that mean I can only get an AMD processor? What else do I need to look at other than the "socket?" This doesn't seem like it should be as frustrating as it is.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Russell

For the most part the processor is soldered into the motherboard when it comes to laptops. You will most likely not be able to replace the processor without a complete motherboard replacement, which may not be possible. As for intel processors in AMD motherboards, that is not possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was looking at this motherboard.

Even though it is an AMD, it has a socket the same as an Intel I7 I found had.
But I will go with Intel won't work with an AMD motherboard. That makes sense.
When I'm looking for a processor and motherboard. Is the socket that tells you which processor will work? Or are there other factors, other than an AMD motherboard needs an AMD processor.

Thanks,
Russell

The socket as the make are what to compare, if it says anything along the lines of am3+/fm2 its AMD. If its a LGA socket, its intel. Either way though those sockets are irrelevant in laptops as the processor is usually soldered to the board.

The one I have now is soldered to the motherboard. That's why I'm looking for a motherboard that isn't that way. And trying to find a processor for the motherboard hasn't been easy. But you answered my questions. Thanks.

Would you mind just looking at this motherboard. Ideally, this would be what I'm looking for. But I think that some one got the information wrong.

It is an AMD motherboard with an Intel socket. In your opinion, do think that's a misprint?

Thanks for all the help,
Russell

It isn't a misprint, the processor is intel based although it has built on graphics and controllers by AMD. It will only accept intel processors though.

Also when looking for a processor for that motherboard, make sure it has the m suffix which means it is meant for a laptop motherboard.

Awesome. You have been extremely helpful. Now at least I know what I'm checking for. I won't bother you any more.
Thanks
