Hello
My brother's PC was having issues with extremely slow loading/start up. (10minutes to get into windows). We replaced the harddrive which got it working faster again, but then we started seeing random lock ups. It would occur during simple tasks like web browsing.

Our next step was to clean out the dust from his computer and reseat the heat sink. However afterwards the PC wouldnt post with ram in the A1 or A2 dimm slots. We can put the 2x4gb sticks in B1 and B2 and the computer will get into windows and be usable, but it still locks up randomly.

We tested identical memory (from a working PC) and still got the issues with the A1/2 slots. Does that sound like the motherboard going bad?

I was going to try removing the motherboard completely and rebuilding the PC, see if that helps. But I'm thinking its something a little more serious than that.

system:
i5 2500k (overclock removed for testing)
asus p8p67
8gb 1333 ram
gtx 460
WD 1tb hdd
corsair 750w PSU

any recommended next steps? or replacement motherboards? (~$150)

thanks, we appreciate it!

Well I rebuilt the computer and it now recognizes ram in any slot.. I have no idea what was going on there. I went through that link you posted, and everything was in order.

These random freezes are very annoying though. Just sitting on the desktop and then everything locks up requiring a hard restart. Does that still sound like a motherboard issue?

Thanks for the motherboard links as well
