Changed Cpu boot settings in msconfig to play game, now cant start computer

I set my my computer to boot with 1 core, when I restarted I get a blue screen and it restarts again, second time around I go to the system repair menu and do a system restore, but still i get the blue screen. Is there an option in bios where I can set my computer to boot with all my cores rather then 1, really just any way to fix this. Its been running fine for over a year now so this has me pretty worried.

Great news, once in safe mode type msconfig is the start menu box just as you did before. Open msconfig while in safe mode and go to advanced settings. Un-check the box where you checked it to select the 1 core. This will reverse/negate your selecting cores (no check in the box). Click ok; next view click apply and then ok to exit msconfig. Re-boot and you should be good to go.

Instead of giving me safe mode, it's says start normally or enter the repair mode. It's windows 7 ultimate. To get a game to work properly, I read I should find the msconfig menu, go to boot, advance settings and change the number of cores to 1. I did that and restarted my computer and received the blue screen. I have an Asus motherboard z77 I think(can't give details at moment) and a intel 3570k CPU. Is there a different way to enter safe mode?

Here is how to start safe mode at boot. Please post exactly what you changed, it will make this much easier. What game? Where did you get the advice from? I know of no game(s) that require this. You may have been scammed. Windows will not run on one core as you found out.
Reboot the computer. Start tapping (tap pretty fast..don't stop) the F8 key as soon as your manufacturer’s logo appears. This will open the Windows Advanced Options Menu.
If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
If you see the Windows logo, it means you did not start pressing the F8 button soon enough. You will need to reboot and try again.
If you have more than 1 HDD you may get a screen asking which to boot from. Select your boot drive but you have to keep tapping the F8, it can be a bit tricky.

Thanks for replying. The game was for Scarface: the world is yours and many different places say to change the amount of processors to one.Here a link to a video that shows what I did http:// . I am able to get into safe mode, thanks for the instructions. What would be the next thing to do?

Hi Dogsnake, I have the same problem that Zin had. But when trying to start my computer in safe mode it just does the same thing by sending me through the blue screen. I was wondering if there was a way to change the number of processors after hitting f8 to get to the windows advanced option menu.

Not that I know of. You need to get to msconfig to make the change if that is where you changed it in the first place. Are you saying you can not get to safe mode as it goes Blue Screen right away? If so you may be able to force the system to offer the safe mode option by starting it from being off and then just as it starts up press and hold the power button down. This will force a system shut down. When you restart you may get a screen saying windows did not shut down properly and do you want it to start in safe mode. Other options are to try a different key, some MB's may use F11 to get you to safe mode but it is usually F8. It does sound like you are not tapping the F8 fast enough or at the right time.

I'm having the same issue I used msconfig to change the number of processors on boot up to play Fallout 3 because it's not optimized for Windows7. So I read a fix for this was to change the number of processors on your computer. I changed it to 1 and it worked fine. Then the next time I played I change it to 2 to get better performance. That also worked fine. So then I rebooted and tried changing it one more time to 4 processors, rebooted and that's when it crashed. Now every time I try and boot up it flashes a blue screen and gots to the boot with diagnostics screen thing. I try booting in safe mode and it still crashes. I have

Intel i7 3770k
GTX GeForce 680
MSI Z77A-GD65
Windows7
