Issue - over five year old machine stopped booting one fine day.

Intel C2D cpu with Intel motherboard.
(pentium D CPU 2.8 GHZ + Intel® Desktop Board D102GGC2)
(stock cooling fan). PC has been running fine before this issue.
Seagate hdd - 160 GB - Sata interface

steps taken:

removed memory and tried to boot - beeps continously (expected)
removed one memory module and tried - same issue - no beep/display.
Tested after removing the hdd/CD-rom - no beeps (!)

additionally, un-assembled the complete pc (smps/mobo/CPU) - and assembled it back - no joy.

Not sure - what is going on. Need help in troubleshooting this issue.

thanks, ankush

PS: Just so that you have the complete info - there is a little green LED on the corner of the mobo - it glows when powered.
the fans are spinning when powered. when i press the power switch and keep it down for 10 seconds, the machine powers off.

Hi RealChaos,

thanks for looking into this... yes - you are correct - it powers on - but no display on the monitor.

Check you electrolitic capacitors close to CPU cooler. They dry up after years of usage. You have to replace them for results.

Hi Bill - I doubt if I have facility to replace around my place - so how can I identify which capacitor may be gone?
also - if this is not possible - then whats the possible next step - replace the motherboard?
