Hi all,

I've been out of the loop for a couple of years, and I need advice. My son (12 years old) wants to build his first computer that will play the games he likes (BeamNG, Dirt, and a few others). He's not yet into things like Crysis, etc.

I need to get advice on current CPUs, motherboards, and graphics cards. At first I thought AMD's A10-6800k would likely do everything he needs for now, and we could add a high-end graphics card later on as his taste in games matures. Can we build a decent machine starting with this CPU? As a reference, he plays all the stuff he likes on my machine happily, and I'm using an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz CPU with a Radeon 6850 1GB graphics card.

We have the case, power supply, all that jazz, just need to boost the game-play!

Oh, just for reference, He'll probably be gaming at 720p resolution, or thereabouts.

Thanks,
Jack

Our budget is 400-450ish. We have the case, hard drive, optical drive, monitor, et cetera, just need to upgrade the cpu, mobo, ram, and power supply.

Thanks!
