Hi guys!
I am thinking of upgrading my desktop computer with a Radeon HD 7770 graphics card, however I am not certain whether or not it will be compatible with my current setup.

dxdiag page shown here:

It is an HP Compaq Elite 8000 SFF with an integrated Q45/Q43 Express Chipset. It does have PCI-E x16 slot.
I believe I will have to upgrade the measly 240W psu with a better one. A friend told me to get something like the corsair cx430 but I am open to any of your suggestions. I do believe the card requires a 6-pin PCI-E power connector...
I would also like to know if there are any other concerns regarding compatibility asides from the power supply as well. Like, whether or not this is even possible at all haha...

More about : upgrading radeon 7770 compatibility

with a new psu it will work great. if you get a 500-600W plus you can pick a card from here: based on your budget:

there's no compatibility issue. all pci ex port cards are backwards compatible to any prev version of the port.

your Motherboard has "Intel® Q45 Express Chipset " and it's PCI-E version is Gen1

But, HD 7770 requires PCI-E gen3 x16 ...

Will a 430W power supply be fine? Is it too much? Too little?

Any true rated power supply will work with HD7770, 430Watts is okay, but you may want to have a 500 watts or better, if you decide to upgrade on a 7790 or better GPU.
This is a very good link, where the power supply requirement is also stated... ;)

HD7770 will work on this motherboard, all pciExpress (except SiS chipset) are backward compatible. It is only that the ful potential of the HD7770 is being limited due to the Q45 Chipset can offer (X8 against X16 PCIEx Lanes, Chipset capability, etc.

what is the use Installing the PCI-E Gen3 GPU in PCI-E Gen1......if u we don't get full potential? waste of Money...

for tat....he can choose Gen2 GPU's

That is very true, and thanks so much for your input and concern. However, I just wanted to know if I could take the graphics card from my friend's computer and place it into my own.

it doesnt matter which gen the pci ex link is. anything bellow high end cards will work fine even on the oldest gen pci ex. they will much sooner be bottlenecked by the old cpu / ram instead of the pci ex port/standard

Guys hd 7770 will not going to bottleneck even in pci exp 1.0,1.1.Graphics card can't use the full speed of pci exp slot. only high end gpu does use it fully
