i7 4930k
G.Skill z 4x4GB 1866 memory
Gigabyte x79 up4 rev 1.1 (with newest F4 bios installed)
Gigabyte gtx 780 (with newest nvidea drivers)
Adata 120 gb ssd
2tb seagate hdd
Corsair h100i 240 mm water cooler
asus optical drive
corsair 850w ps
windows 8.1 pro 64-bit

I have built a computer and it is shutting down randomly usually within a minute to half an hour. This problem not only persists when in windows, but also when not in windows (in the bios screen). After some time it just shuts down. I made sure to install the newest drivers on every component and the bios is of the newest version. I was reading the temperatures and they seem okay under stress (cpu 30-40 degrees and video card 35-40 degrees and the exhaust air is cold). All the cables are definitely plugged in properly and the memory are in quad channel and they are put in the right slots (even though I tried running this with only 1 stick I still had the same problem). The shutting down occurs out of the case as well when I ran it so I don't think anything is short circuiting the board. There are no beeps when the system POSTS. The windows event viewer shows only a critical error saying the system shutdown unexpectedly and gives 0's for all parameters with no information. I tried doing a memory dump when the system turns off but for some reason windows doesn't create the memory.dmp file. But I am not too concerned about that because it crashes when it is not in Windows so i do not think it is an OS issue. Using HW monitor and monitoring the bios the voltages seem correct on the rails. I can't run anything like memtest because the system just crashes. I have turned on and off xmp profile and the same problem occurs. I have also tried a setting on the motherboard which is supposed to increase stability of the memory for the cost of performance, but this didn't seem to work. I am stuck on what next to try.

One thing about the build.. you have a great parts list but the mobo, you have an K version CPU + water cooler but NO "z" version mobo - you cant OC your CPU with that.

As for the solution, it's most likely the PSU. Pls test another one, but don't plug the GPU, with only 1 ram stick and only the windows HDD/SSD just in case.

Pls update me and Good Luck!

Yes it can overclock (even though I have not overclocked anything yet). I do not have another PSU to try but I tried the 'paperclip' test and it seems to work and the readings on the voltages seem to be alright. I will maybe try to exchange my psu later in the week, but do you think it could be something else before I do that?

No I did not when I put it in but it worked for the first 4 days at first and then this problem started occurring. So I assume the cpu had to be working if it worked for 4 days with any problems. I guess I will need to get another PSU.

yes everything shuts down. After it does when I press the power button on the case to turn it on nothing happens, I have to first turn off the power switch in the back of the PSU and then turn it back on and then when I press the power button on the case it turns back on, but of course in 5-10 minutes it shuts off again.

Ohh my bad, missed that one.. but still i didnt like the mobo's builtin chipsets and onboard OC tweaks, just a thought
