Hey there! So I bought a gaming computer (second hand, but it's a beast) a few weeks ago and everything was running 100% perfectly. Only just in the past few days has the second hard drive been playing up, but the problem is that the hard drive rarely shows up in 'Disk Management' (or in the 'My Computer' window) and when it does, if I try opening it, the window closes and the drive disappears. I checked the cords plugged into the hard drive itself and just took them out and plugged them back in, to ensure it wasn't loose or anything.

The primary hard drive is a 120GB SSD, the secondary just a 1TB HDD. I can get the HDD to show up sometimes if I just keep restarting the computer (it's like gambling) till it comes up, and sometimes the 'Rescan Disks' options in 'Disk Management' will show it (maybe 1 out of 5 scans).

I really need access to this drive, as I was setting this up for my little brother as a Christmas gift do urgent help is needed! Thank you!

Solution
You can try another MB port. And you can check the drives health with vendor's diagnostic tool. It will be better than any third party software.

I managed to get the hard drive to 'show up' after a few restarts and am currently running "chkdsk x: /f" on it now. Not sure what good it'll do, but we'll see.

Just before it managed to stay stable long enough for me to get my music off of it, which took around an hour (what a godsend!) but the whole computer froze shortly after. Not sure if it's stable this 2nd time around, but I'll wait for command prompt to finish it's thing
