Just prepared to upgrade my vid card in my gaming rig

I'm running
i7 2600k, 16gb DDR3 (4x4gb)
1 SSD
1 HDD
2 usb ports in constant use (one keystation keyboard, one wireless xbox receiver)
2 usb ports for mouse and keyboard
Just picked up a 780 Classified

Read the min requirements and it says that the 12v rails need 42amps MIN

My current PSU is a Raidmaxx RX-1000AE
The wattage might be right, but the amps are off... Box says the 12v rails have something like 32 amps?

So, that being said. Are the watts not important?

Should i start looking around for a new PSU as well??

What PSU would be good to keep my system running safely? (would prefer not to break the bank though)

-_- Gah. Thanks for ANY advice in advance!

Solution
that PSU has four 12volt rails rated @36amps each or 75 amps TOTAL:

tbh, raidmax are not the best PSUs being an andyson OEM (who really built the unit). i really suggest looking at some nice gold rated 650 watt PSUs. an OC'd i7 system will use ~150 watts (cpu, ram, motherboard chipset SSD and HD) a 780 classy at stock ~235 watts

btw, anything using an USB port will be on the 5 volt rail - just a few watts each.

This is exactly the answer I was looking for! I'm in no position to spend another chunk on my rig. Its nice to know that this should suffice for the time being. I would like to upgrade eventually, but I want to do it in summer. Probably grab a x16 x2 pcie mobo, a second 780, and watch my head explode playing Watch Dogs haha

Thanks again for the detailed answer!

Raidmax makes the worst power supplies on the market.

I wouldn't run a nice card with a Raidmax.

Tier 5 - Other than the units listed above for any of these brands, NOT RECOMMENDED. Replace ASAP if you have one.

This puppy has done well as far as running everything at stock volts. I ran a 6970 on it for a very long time now (4 years straight) doing heavy gaming (4-5 hours a day a few years back)

Not vouching for it, as i've read nothing but nightmares about it. I just hadn't found out about this until recently

I will eventually upgrade within the next few months. Just not RIGHT now.

What would be a good PSU for my current build, if i'd like to run a second 780 card by summer?
