First a Big Thanks for t reading this

I want to surpries my 13 Year Old Son and Build a Game PC on Christmas with him. He gotthe game xcom from steam last Christmas and none of our rigs would even boot it. He was Pretty Sad. Anyways this year I have been saving up and I hope to build something cool. I have No Experience but alot of will.

Our Needs Basic Web Surf / Hulu Netflix HDMI to a future Tv? And Finally Play Xcom

After Way too Many Hours of contemplation this all seems pretty Good Together. I Would like to go cheaper but keep an intel setup

There's no point in getting the i3-3225 over the -3220 if you're using a dedicated GPU. You may also be better off getting an FX-6300 and an AM3+ board like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130679

It should come with all the necessary cables and thermal paste, but you'll need a screen, keyboard, and mouse.

The copy of windows from the laptop probably won't work. If it says OEM on the key sticker, it's locked to Dell laptops.

Couple of cheaper parts:
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149380
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182131

Thank You for the Reply. Budget has been met or over at this point with the OS Purchase.

Good Morning and Thanks for the reply! I am most likely way over thinking this but.......

I looked at your suggestions and I am worried about the reviews on the HDD

The Reason I went with the XFX PSU was their insane 5 year warranty and what appears to be good to better Customer Service. and 59.99 with a rebate The whole build is about 50$ cheaper with rebates so I guess thats about half the os cost.

I went with the i3 3225 because my thought was we are going have so much fun doing this [same as building a car or house]
that another build would be in the not too distant future. So steal the card and we would still have soild setup. Mind you im still rocking my dell dimension 3000 that i bought new way back when so this is a huge improvement. Most likely will use the screen keyboard and mouse from it So the extra $15 seemed like a good call.

Thank You so much .
Larry

Based on your parts, and including windows it looks like you are spending about $750. I would suggest this build instead, you get a better CPU and GPU, a bigger HDD, and a more capable motherboard.

Hi and Thank You for your reply it saved me a few bucks with the dvd and ram suggestions . I am now sitting at 632.92 pre rebate cards which brings me to 582.92 not to shabby for our budget but the MB does seem like a week link.
Thanks again for the help and Happy Holidays
