PC was working fine, but now doesn't boot.

Hi all,

A couple of months ago I self built my first gaming pc. Everything was working fine until a couple of days ago, when I started to experience crashes where the monitor went black, and I heard continuous varying tones from my headset. The fans were still spinning after this happened. I then checked all of the connections, which fixed the problem.
When I tried to boot this morning, everything span up as normal (and my RAM's LEDS lit up), but the monitor remained blank.
I've tried the following:
Switching the graphics card slot
Turning it off and on again...
Taken out SATA cables
Checking all cables

Specs are
FX 8350, stock clock
MSI Twinfrozr III 2Gb GTX 680, stock
ASRock Extreme3 990FX Mobo
Asus PCIE wifi card
Seagate 500GB HDD

pull headset from computer. try to boot.

also, what type of connection are you using for the headset?

I've tried that- it doesn't help. I don't think the headset is the problem, as the original crashes stopped whilst still using the headset.

Reseat the RAM, then try it with each stick on it's own. Also, clear the CMOS.

I managed to fix the computer not starting by clearing the CMOS (thanks Someone), however the crashes with the sound corruption are still happening.
@Swifty I'm using the standard analog connector on the front of my case.

sound driver conflict. if you're using onboard sound/disable or uninstall the nvidia hd sound that installed with the graphics driver.

I'm trying that now, but the time from start up to the crash seems to get shorter every time it crashes, so it's difficult. Speed driver uninstall! The latest game from Nvidia...

what video card do you have?

leave speed driver uninstall alone............ if you have a disc that came with your motherboard........ see if you can reinstall the motherboard drivers.

I'm running a MSI TwinfrozrIII 680, at stock clocks.

I've tried re installing mobo drivers, but that hasn't solved the problem.

Any more suggestions?
