I would wait for the AMD Kaveri CPU, it can do 30fps BTF4 on HD on medium settings, you are looking at still allot of money because you need new Ram as well ;). Your DDR2 wont make it.
The CPU is also Mantle compatible so you can expect a performance increase, but with any APU, your Ram speed is very important.

If the CPU will be crossFire enabled to work together with another cheap AMD GPU, then your looking at a real prospect of gaming for 400 dollars, lets wait till about half februarie.
Very excited about this.

Else save for double the amount you just mentioned. (highly recommended)

Plenty of benchmarks on Google, i disrecommend the CPU for the simple reason that within a short time span...Kaveri will be released and that thing is powerfull!. You will regret!

I'm not sure I'd go with an APU for gaming, especially if you plan to upgrade from FM2 sockets.
In this case, a real CPU/GPU combo would work better all around with the same price range in mind.
Here's a quick build of your required parts that will do around high at under $400 -

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($58.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: A-Data XPG Gaming Series 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($33.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: PNY GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card ($154.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $347.95
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

HDD if you need: Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.98 @ OutletPC)
if you do need HDD i would recommed you to add up 59 bucks to get it out of 400$ with no loss in performance from other parts especially GPU!

Yes but as mentioned i ment the newest that will come out soon:
http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/Video-Battlefield-4-Running-AMD-A10-Kaveri-APU-and-Image-Decoder-HSA-Acceleratio

Read link and/or check out video, no other APU will handle Battlefield 4 and be playable at the same time.
