Please help me to overclock my Q6600 G0 on Asus Striker Extreme

sorry, but your link is blocked from here. but, overclocking q6600 is the same as overclocking any 775 cpu.
so any guide online will apply. increase fsb, check your ratio, test, increase if needed, test again,
just watch your voltages and temps.

check this out, it's not the exact same mobo, but is a good guide. 3ghz is easy on the G0 Q6600.

If you have any troubles, PM me, I've the same chip, and it's a doddle to get it to that.

edit: agree with cons29, OC'ing is fun, and the reward can be huge, but read into it a bit, and make sure to test for stability.

just saw your specs there. With your ram, your not going to be able to go beyond 3ghz (PC5300 = 333mhz x 9 multi = 2997mhz). Your limited by your ram. You may be able to OC the ram, but you won't get much more out of it.
Additionally, because you have four dims populated, you will need slightly more voltage to NB and ram. But just a small increase.

Spent all day yesterday, trying to OC. I increased the FSB and VCore on my CPU, got my cpu to 2.7GHz, and it froze after an hour of work. Got everything back to stock.

I can't overclock by following any guides online ;/

set your ram to unlinked. set your ram frequency to 333mhz/667 (this is the 3ghz settings). It should be at 266mhz by default. put your vcore at whatever your VID is. my q6600 has a VID of 1.3 :( By starting with your default VID you have a place to work from. For 3ghz, most Q6600 don't require a voltage increase. But if you don't boot properly, raise it a notch at a time and restart.

Set all other voltages to auto (just for the time being and you adjust those after you have a stable boot, and get to windows) see if it boots. you may need to research your bios's though. For the P5NE that I have, only 0608 works for 3ghz and above. So might be something similar for your board.

Hey! I did what you said, I even booted into Windows. It was extremely glitchy. But it was showing 3GHz core clock. But it was unable to open anything, but CPU-Z . Then I rebooted my PC and it was frozen. Had to reset everything to stock. Maybe, the problem is really with my memory?

You need some tools to help stress test.

I use the following.

Coretemp -monitors temps of all cores on your CPU, and also gives your VID. You want your CPU temps to be under 60 degrees C for full load stressing if it goes above that, then your really pushing it.
Prime95 - Test your CPU for stability (use small ffts, which test only your CPU and cache - best way to find your stable CPU)
Memtest - For testing your mem.

It could be the mem. In one of previous posts I mentioned that all 4 dims for memory are populated on your board. So you will need to set the ram timings and voltage in the memory section of your mobo bios. I would suggest having the memory voltage at about 2.1 or the closest one to that, and set your timings manually. THis can be the single biggest reason why an OC is unstable.

Get back to me after you do that. Might be worth Pm'ing me rather than posting.
