Monitor size vs GPU strength

Hi everyone,

As an entry level PC gamer I'm about to upgrade my HD 6770 (I think to a R9 270). Currently, I have a 19" monitor (1440x900 I believe).

How important is monitor size or resolution in comparison to a graphics card? If I pair an R9 270 with my 19" (1440x900) would that look amazing compared to say a 23" monitor with a more robust resolution? Or is that just splitting hairs.

Thanks,

Dudka

You have three things to consider:
1. Screen size
2. Resolution
3. Detail settings

A bigger screen takes up more of your field of view. A small screen looks small no matter how good the image is.
The higher resolution the better. The monitor has a native resolution, so you should aim to match that.
Lastly is detail settings...

Lastly is detail settings. High looks much better than low. Very High or Ultra is a smaller improvement.

A 19" monitor is small.
23" to 27" is a typical size and these will look much better.
Most 23" to 27" monitors are 1920x1080.
An R9 270 will display 1920x1080 very well at High settings.

Size always matters! :D
For the GPU only detail level and resolution play a role (more of both is better, but needs more GPU power). But for yourself the ratio between screen size and resolution maters too.
A 23" 1080p screen will probably look better then your screen and IMO 1080p looks best on monitors up to 24inch, 27" is too large

I use an old 42" LCD TV as a gaming monitor.
Text is blocky for web browsing, editing documents, etc but it still looks great in games.
A 27" monitor is fine at 1920x1080.
