hello everyone, this is my first post.

so i just moved yesterday, and an hour or so after setting up the computer and it running, i bumped it a bit with my knee while moving around the room.(it wasn't completely under the table yet). after a big bang noise, the thing crashes and wont start again. I've looked a little on the forums, and most people who have that happen say they had a little or lots of smoke coming out. I don't smell anything and didn't see any smoke.

I took out the power supply and it has a loose piece or something inside, since its rattling when i turn it around, so im sure that needs replacing, but is there a way to check the motherboard if it got fried as well, short of trying another psu in the computer and starting it?

I had this psu.

Im looking at this for a replacement

this was my build almost exactly 2 years ago that me and a friend thought up

let me know what you guys think

thanks

richard

do not buy that psu it uses 6x 12v rails, I would RMA your current one since it should be still under warranty?

your current psu is much better quality, also for that build you dont need anything near 1000w, you can run on a decent 550-600w just fine

id say the big bang was a capacitor blowing apart and that's what your hear rattling

The link you provided said it is 3 years parts/labor which is about the minimum on a PSU. Who told you it was 12 months? Anyway as said, you're doing it wrong. Get a name brand properly sized PSU. 500W is MORE than enough for that build.

The one you're looking at I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot poll.

EDIT: looks like newegg made a typo on the, warranty.still if find someone to take it apart and look. if its a blown cap a new one cost 50 cents. That assumes you know someone who can solder and it didn't fry anything else

only problem is if it goes again who knows if it will fry anything. give it a go though, depending on what cap went it should be an easy fix

hmm... so is it worth the effort to fix if there is a chance to blow my motherboard later? i'll ask the guy when i drop the psu off tonight if it will be ok or not. i wouldn't like to chance it... especially for 65$ or 83$ free shipping....

I'll keep you guys posted on what he says when he opens it, thank you both for your help and input.

I'm wondering if its the motherboard or the case now.... the sb_power light stays on when i plug it in an outlet. I've tried switching the ram around and using only 1 of them, i have made sure i plugged the right wires in from the psu back into the motherboard and other components, but its not powering up or doing any noises. what should my next step be?
