Case Front Power Button Does Not Power On System

My son purchased all the components necessary to put together a complete system. We did this over the weekend and to my amazement, it all works. Only one problem though. To power the system on one must push the power button on the motherboard (with the switch on the power supply set to on). The front power button on the case won't do it.

So it's obvious to me that the wire from the case power button is not connected to the correct connector on the motherboard, but we can't figure it out.

The case is a Rosewill Thor V2 and the motherboard is a Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

No, the power supply powers the motherboard and everything attached to the motherboard. That should power the front panel cables (if they are plugged in) and then you can press the power button which will turn the PC on. So basically, first you need to plug in the power switch connector into the front panel connectors board (shown in picture above). :)

You should have ports that look like this near the bottom corner of your motherboard.

If you look closely you can see that all of them are labeled and that all your cords are labeled. The front panel cords should of come all bound together inside the case. It is a matching puzzle. Just match the names and pluses and minuses to the board.

Hope your son has fun with his PC! :)

The power button cable should be labled. As for where to put it i can't find a good picture big enough to read where it goes. I do see there a section for the front panel to be plugged in as all motherboards have but can't see where to plug it in I would suggest its one of the 2 pin i think thats what mine was.

None of the cables from the case are labeled Power SW, but there is one labeled Reset SW. Right now, I have it connected to the Reset SW connector on the board. I didn't see a Power SW connector on the board but I'll look tonight. If I find it, I'll attach the Reset SW to that one.

I should also mention that the power supply has a switch on the rear of it, and when it's set to on, it just lights up the power switch on the motherboard (that can then be pressed for power on). My question is, should the power supply switch itself turn on the computer?

Thanks,

Mark

The Reset SW wire from the case connected to the Power SW on the motherboard did the trick. Thanks!
