Hello all,

I just bought a BenQ RL2455HM monitor, and when I move my PC mouse cursor, there is a very white trail behind it, believe this is ghosting? Sorry, somewhat new to the display area. I was thinking about sending the RL2455HM back.

But first, I was wondering if I could get some advice/opinions on what other monitor I could get. My choices at the moment are, the BenQ XL2420TE or the ASUS VG248QE.

However, I was wondering - would there be ANY drawbacks to using a 120/144Hz monitor with a console?

Seeing as how they only run @60Hz, or would both of these monitors be better for consoles than the RL2455HM?

The reason I am asking is because the native refresh rate of these 2 monitors is 120Hz (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Would running a 60Hz console on either BenQ XL2420TE or the ASUS VG248QE introduce more delay because they're not native to 60Hz, or would this have no affect on the delay whatsoever?

To be clear, I am using my PC and Console on this monitor, which is why I would like a 144Hz monitor.

Any questions just ask, I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks!

Both are pretty much equal. I think however, the BenQ model is specifically built for FPS games so if you will be doing long term FPS games, the XL model will be the better choice. Even if you are running low FPS(Frames per second) while gaming, you will see 120/144hz monitor will show better quality and performance compare to a 60hz. A game running at 60fps on a 120/144hz will show better quality than 60fps on a 60hz monitor.

Before you start considering this, make sure you haven't got the 'display cursor trail' setting on in Windows. Also check if your monitor has an overclocking feature in the settings since this can help eliminate ghosting. Many monitors have this feature.

To answer your questions:

1. Both those monitors are great. You can't really go wrong with either. I would lean toward the Asus as I've never had a dead pixel on an Asus monitor, and those two are very similar spec-wise.

2. Yes, there are small drawbacks to using high refresh rate monitors with consoles. Firstly, they max out at 60fps in games, and it is unlikely that they will ever manage 120 until the ninth generation comes out. Secondly, there are no LED/IPS 120+Hz monitors, so picture colour/vibrancy will suffer.

3. Yes, they would be better for consoles (as well as PC depending on whether you can notice the difference between 60 and 120fps or not).

4. It will seem more responsive on a 120Hz monitor since they often have low GTG response time and of course can display higher framerates, however response time and refresh rate are technically unrelated.

Hope I helped!

If you have an NVIDIA card you may wish to consider one of the Asus G-Sync monitors, possibly Q1 2014. You can read about G-SYNC but it's truly amazing tech:

Asus is even going to make monitors which can simply add the G-Sync component.

Ok, so to be clear - there really is no downside to using a 144Hz display with a console, in terms of delay, when compared to a 60Hz monitor, correct?

This would make both of these monitors better for console gaming than the RL2455HM all around, right?

As for the G-Sync, nVidia's site says ASUS, BenQ, Philips, and Viewsonic will have access to it I believe. Would be nice to get for sure. However, I need to get a GPU to support the G-Sync anyways because i'm currently using the EVGA GeForce GTX 560Ti SC w/ ACX Cooler. Needs to be 650Ti and above for the G-Sync to work with it, i believe. So it would most likely be awhile before G-Sync would do me any good, unfortunately.

Also, I was wondering if anyone who has seen both the BenQ RL2455HM and the ASUS VG248QE in person could tell me, which of these has better picture color? This is just me being curious.

Thanks.
