So this is my rig

GTX 760
I7-4770k
8GB DDR3 RAM

Problem is, my FPS often drops down to 40 FPS. Playing on medium settings. My rig should be able to play high with 60 fps easy.

I'm not sure what is going on i do have one question though, my GPU is in my 2nd slot ( Asus Maximus VI hero) because it wouldn't fit in my 1st slot (My case...) I do know first slot uses 16lanes(i believe) 2nd does use 8x and third one use 4x. But isn't that only in SLI. Or can this be the cause of my FPS drops?

Hope anyone can help me out here this forum has saved me quite some times now, hope we can fix this to:D

Solution
sounds like a driver issue.

grab latest nvidia beta drivers and driver fusion and ccleaner.

uninstall all nvidia drivers and dont restart when prompted.
run driver fusion and use the nvidia driver cleaner then restart when prompted.
on restart run ccleaner file cleaner then the registry cleaner multiple times till it finds no errors.
install nvidia display driver as custom and only install the display driver and control panel.

see if this helps

Yea.. i'm really clueless. tried multiple drivers, using the latest one atm. And it just dips out of no where. On some maps i get 120-150 then a quick dip to 40-50... I don't get it!

Check if you have the latest drivers from nvidia.
What windows do you have? I've heard windows 8.1 with the new directx has better performance for Bf4.
Also check the temps of the card because it may throttle down if they get high.
Also what psu you have may play a role to the performance.

Windows 7. Windows 8 should give a boost but Win 7 shouldn't have these FPS issues.
Lates drivers for my GPU. my PSU is 600W which should be enough. And the temps... i'm not sure but i just cleaned my GPU (removed dust)

Still not sure on my answer though. I'm using the 2nd slot on my MOBO, does that run on 8X? as the 1st slot runs on 16x and the 3rd slot on 4x, or does that only applies with SLI cards?

Well it seems the update yesterday really borked the game. The ground in most of the maps is just a solid brown color that flashes constantly, the game freezes every round, and the sound keeps cutting out. The game worked absolutely fine for me before yesterday's update. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's just the game's fault.

we can't be sure exactly how much bandwith your getting from your mobo in this so called 2nd slot bcause we don't know what your mobo is... Possibly. The only problem I would see from the mobo is if you were to put it in a PCIE 1.0 slot since putting the 760 into PCIE 2.0 wouldn't cause a huge issue since most cards today can't even max out PCIE 2.0

You may have a 600W however it could be dual rail or just one of those crappy ones with not enough amps on the +12V Rail.

someone else had a problem like this but with the 770, he re-install windows and it fixed his fps problems.. maybe you can consider that

hes already fixed the problem, it was a borked driver and the remnants left behind, if your having problems or friends are with BF4 or any game then just follow the instructions i left, just do that between updating any display driver and you will get the least amount of problems.
