I just bought a new HP laptop, which has 3 partitions - C drive with 915 gb, D drive with recovery and E drive with HP tools. Now i know that now a days every pc maker are giving a dynamic hdd, but how do i check it or verify it?

Can i convert the dynamic hdd to basic without corrupting the os by using softwares like Easus partition manager?

I have Genuine Windows 8 os and warranty that i do not want to lose, but i cant save all my data in one drive because of risks that may occur in future.

@rgd1101 Once i tried to partition my uncle's laptop using windows disk management and i end up corrupting the OS files. One cannot partition a dynamic HDD by using windows disk management. I converted my uncle's laptop's hdd into basic by using some dos commands in cmd for doing partition peacefully.

Because having a single partition is dangerous, i could end up losing my personal files if something goes wrong. Its always safe to have more than 1 partition in the system.

I am concerned about any virus attack or corruption of a OS file (both of which may occur without my knowledge) in that case i can use other drives either extract data or recover windows. Saving each and every personal and important file into external hdd is kind of difficult because every time one would to plug it and copy and paste, this cant happen everytime. Sometimes i may forget to save the data into my external hdd. I checked my Disk Management, the "Type" column shows "Basic".

Should go ahead with normal partition using windows disk management? HP did not give me windows 8's dvd so my only way to recover it is through RECOVERY drive. Is it safe to use disk management to partition my WINDOWS 8 drive? I do not want to lose the OS.
