Hi all,

Gonna pick up a 120 GB ssd to install windows 8.1 on. As i have my rig already built with all my programs and my OS (windows 8.1) already installed, i have a question or two:

First, when i do a fresh install of OS onto the ssd with just the ssd connected, when i reconnect the hdd do i need to somehow remove the old copy of the OS? if so, how do i do that..?

second, will i need to reinstall any programs which are installed on the hdd? i will NOT be installing anything besides the OS onto the ssd, so should i plan to reinstall anything, or not?

thanks

Gokul you really want someone to raid an HDD to an SSD? - That.. not a good idea unless you are meaning to enable ssd caching which is only available on some intel chipset boards.

@ KPMooney - 1: just delete the windows folder but you dont have to. If you leave the drive as is, it will remain bootable should the ssd suffer a premature failure.
2: Most of them yes. The new win install might not have all the necessary info to run the program as many write to the registry and users appdata folder when they are first installed.
Don't use raid.

First backup any data you want from your HDD. Disconnect the HDD and connect the SSD, Install the OS. Once the OS is installed, reconnect the HDD, and format the HDD. This will wipe the HDD (OS and Data). Then you can re-install any applications. You won't be able to run your application that are currently installed on the HDD without re-installing them.
