power supply doesn't seem to match my MoBo

i have a HP pavilion p6710f & am trying to upgrade. I 0nly had a 250 w power supply so i bought a CX 600 power supply which I was told would work. the long connecter seems to be right (haven't tried it jet) but the MoBo has a socket with "P7" on it & 2 black & 2 yellow wires. the new one only has "6" wire connections (3 black & 3 yellow) can I get an adapter for this connection or will I have to get another box? I will also be installing a radeon HIS vedio card for some gamming.

Yep that is pretty much exactly what you do :) I think you had the PCI power supply, but you should be good to go now. Glad we were able to figure that out for you! If it does get you up and running don't forget to close the thread (select solution)

are you talking about the square 4 pin connector on the board right beside the processor? there will be a 4 pin male adapter on that power supply... it could look like an 8 pin one 2x4 pin... but it will be in 2 pieces that can be taken apart.

looks that way damn I need new glasses<. it has CPU on the side, so I just take them apart & use the one that fits
?

OK great guys I got it running now I need to get all my files onto my external drive, wipe the main HD & install windows 8.1 & hope for the best. I wasn't raised up in the digital world & I'm sure some of you have the same kinda luck getting your kids to help! like pushin a rope.

When you look at someone elses post bottom center there should be a green button that says "select as solution"
