R9 270x 6 pin plug required?

I just bought a Gigabyte R9 270x and I realised there are 2 6 pin plugs, is it required or is it optional?

tis generally required. 270x is the 2 pin 7870. if you wanted one with 1 pin, that's what a R9-270 is for, its exactly the same card but with 1 6 pin.

It is required for maximum performance of the card. It may work if you only have one plugged in, but if the load gets to high, your computer could crash.

They are both required. If your psu doesn't have 2x6 pin connectors than it may not be powerful enough to run the card.

That's not truth, you can always buy a 4pin Molex to 6 pin power conector converter and problem solved, i've seen people with hd 7970 with power supplys without any 6 pin power conector, from those old withe PSU and everything run just find for almost 2 years. I think they chance old ones, one month ago.

In my experience I found out that good PSUs have at least 2x6 pin connectors. If the PSU doesn't have 2 that usually means that it was not designed to power such a card or it may be a bad brand that says 650w on the label but actually delivers less then half. Altough it may be possible I see no reason at all to use those molex adapters because it is a good sign that the PSU is not strong enough for the card and you may damage it.

that's is correct. You should have a PSU with x2 6 pin power conector. but you can always buy an adapter like my friends did with those 7970 for almost 2 years

if you don't have the x2 6 pin PSU and you only have one. or 8 pin etc.

I just got my Sapphire R9 270X today and I was really disappointed that it didn't work because I only have 1x6 pin connector from the PSU (didn't think to check that when I was buying the PSU). I will get a molex to 6-pin adapter tomorrow, is it really true that this can damage the PSU or card?

I got the Molex to 6-pin adapter, installed the card, and had these weird dots all over one of the monitors (DVI only). Here's what it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JuUHt0OTco&feature=youtu.be

I've since taken the card out because I was worried it might be damaging something. Does anyone have any idea if the adapter or the power supply could be causing this? I don't want to spend money sending the card back to get a new one if a new one will have the exact same problem.
