Cooling my i5-4670K

So here's the deal - I have an i5-4670K running at 4.2GHz, idle at 28*C on a Cooler Master Hyper TX3. It's a tiny little tower cooler (92mm fan!), but its all that would fit in my old In Win Mana 136 case. But now, I've upgraded to a CM HAF XB case, and can fit up to 18cm tall coolers... So I'm putting some thought into a new cooler, and also overclocking to 4.6GHz, or even 4.8GHz if I've won the silicon lottery.

My first thought on coolers was a Noctua NH-D14. However I also started to consider closed loop water coolers if I was going to try for 4.8Ghz. I looked at the Swiftech H220 240mm rad, and the NZXT Kraken X60 280mm rad. Both are rated as the best choices in their respective sizes, but I wasn't really sure whether or not they'd have any advantage over a high end air cooler. Naturally, the rads would be in push-pull, however due to a weird design flaw in the HAF XB, I wouldn't be able to fit the Kraken X60 in with 4 140mm fans (there's a section in the front panel to install two 120mm fans, which is between the mesh front panel and the inside metal panel of the case, however you can't fit 140mm fans in here). Essentially, a quad 140mm fan set up wont fit without case modding, which I can't be bothered doing. So I'm now thinking, well what if I just fit two 120mm fans at the front of the case, and then use 140mm fans on the inner side of the rad? Would that cause any issues with cooling performance? Would i be better just going for a H220?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Oh and if anyone has any ideas on what good radiator fans I could use would be, please let me know :)

Idling at 28C is a great temperature. I do not recommend the swiftech cooler. I will recommend the kraken x60 for 140mm or the Corsair H100i. I would personally go for the H100i as motherboard voltage supply will also limit your overclock. For fans, the H100i has the best fans, which are the Corsair SP120 High performance editions.

I had considered the H100i, but it doesn't offer cooling quite as good as the H220... However it looks like there's a new dual 120mm coming out from Coolermaster, the Glacer 240L, and it has the best performance on the market. I may well go for that, if not the Kraken X60. Really, the only issue with the Kraken is that I can't fit 4 140mm fans on it...

I recommend getting either a Corsair (Oldest and best brand I know for reliability) or an NZXT (new but decent reliability). The last thing you want is for the cooler to break down. Cooler master makes great air coolers, but their water coolers are overpriced for the performance and are a little sketchy.

Well, this Cooler master cooler is a joint design between Cm and Swiftech, and is very highly rated by Linus Tech Tips, and actually now rated as the best 120mm cooler, by the looks of it, even beating out the Kraken X60... One of the features that make it stand out, is that it is fully expandable. I could use it to create a custom loop in the future if i wanted to, which I may well. However I have looked into the Corsair link software, and it does seem very useful.

The only thing I don't like about the glacier is the price tag. Also, Corsair link is very expensive for the full kit, the base module is >$50.

Well it isn't out in the UK yet, so I'll have to see what the price is. Hopefully it wont be too steep, otherwise I'll probably go with a Corsair one.
