Would this speed up my wireless PC connection?

I have a PCI-Express card (200mbps) installed in my newly built PC. I get all five bars when i check the signal strength, but the speed is still painfully slow (download speed about 1.5mbps).

If I were to purchase another wireless router such as this, to place with my PC :

would my ping/upload/download speed speed improve? If so, is the increase in speed worth paying over $40 for? Is it even possible to utilize a wireless router as a standalone receiver for my PC?

Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions.

That router is a complete waste of money. It is very old technology and is way overpriced. You can get a bunch of dual band 802.11n routers for about the same price. You can get very simple ones for $20 so you never should buy old 802.11b/g trash.

First thing to try is to cable your PC to your current router and see what the very best you can expect is. If this is still slow then you have a issue with the ISP connection or the router.

If you care getting 5 bars you have very strong signal. This almost has to be interference from another device or a driver issue. load inssider and see what your neighbors are using. Try to use a channel they are not...you really only should use 1,6,or 11.

If you think you have a issue with...

If you think you have a issue with your wireless card a $10 usb adapter would be your best bet to test. You could use a router as a bridge but it must have the client-bridge feature. This does not really give any significant advantage over USB or PCI wireless devices. normally you use bridge devices on things like gaming consoles or tv that only have ethernet and have no way to use the other options.
