So recently my computer has started to freeze up with audio stutter. I've checked the memory sticks and updated the drivers on my video and audio cards. I'm almost positive it's avideo card malfunction but i'm not completely sure, does anyone else know if this is what's causing it or not? I'm using an Nvidia Geforce GT540m

Freezing is a complex problem. May be virus / hardware/ or else.... Begin by scanning with malwarebytes (free) and superantispyware ( free ) then you could use ccleaner( free) to get rid of crap in your registry. If the problem persist you may restore your computer to a previous date when it was working fine....
