Hi, I just bought a brand new xbox 360s and it worked beautifuly all day. Tonight it was working when it just stopped. I noticed that the power supply button is read when I turned the whole system off. Should it be? Does anyone have any idea why it would just stop working like that? I was having no problems at all. It is hooked up in the HDMI to tv. My husband checked all the cables and everything for me they are fine. He did get it to re-boot back on, and then it stopped, went to a black screen, no error codes, no red lights, no picture or sound at all. Do I need to replace it? I tried to find the place on the computer just to register it and could not. So I don't know if this sort of thing is even covered or not? If you can answer any of the question, any help, advice, I would really appriciate it. I turned 60, it was my birthday present, so I'm not real savvy on a lot of the stuff I read. Is there a simple reason or am I out my money? (which we don't have much of right now). He never should have gotten me this xbox, but my white one died and he knows how crazy I am about playing the games! He's just too sweet to me. I got side tracked, sorry, I need some help with the possible problem. Thank you very much.

Solution
I don't own one myself but your MANUAL should help troubleshoot. I believe the lights are now DIFFERENT from the original XBOX 360.

So my advice is take it to the store you bought it at if possible, or another store that sells them or even a friend with a compatible power supply (don't know if the original XBOX 360 power supply works).

If that works it may be as simple as swapping the broken power supply for a new one under your Warranty for free from the local store. I don't know if they'd ask you to swap the entire thing, but if it's brand new with little installed it's not a big deal.

Device failure:
The most common times to fail are RIGHT AWAY or after a couple years. Right away indicates a manufacturing defect, and later on...

More then likely your power brick is faulty (I'm assuming you have one of the newer black slim models which the failure rate of the bricks is actually exceedingly high on those). If that is the case then you have one of two options, you can have it sent in if there is any warranty or you can order a new power brick for your specific model online (which will cost about 20 USD but will save you the hassle of dealing with Microsoft's customer service).

Good luck.
