So, I'm not into overclocking. Though I appreciate it I'm really all about durability. (if i could build a surge proof computer I would) I need reliability and enough power to paint digitally. I never seem to have enough power to keep up with the pace I need to work at. I don't need multiple monitors, just enough power to keep up with a pencil on paper. That being said I need speed and reliability.

I know its about upgrade time anyway, but I don't have much of a budget. I've been running this Sabertooth x58 Mobo (and it's pretty solid 3 years later) I hope to get more life out of the i7 960. I'm wearing out my ram and cooked my old GPU (currently sitting with 4 sticks (because 2 burned out) 2g Corsair Dominator ddr3 1600 8-8-8, & an XFX HD5450 (that just isn't enough) and desperately a need better graphics solution. I'm an artist an need my computer for illustration and animation as well as the odd game of Starcraft or such. so i need something with great floating point support. I thought 7770 graphics cards looked pretty good, but figured wisdom favored asking the community for any ideas.

THE MULE (cuz' its a stubborn beast) current build:

Board: MOBO Sabertooth x58

Chip: Intel i7 960

Ram: DDR3 Corsair Dominator 1600 8-8-8 2g x4 (2 dimms open) thinking of upgrading to 4g sticks.

Graphics: XFX (sad little) 5450 graphics card

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500gb HD 7200

Power supply: 850 W (Thermaltake Tr2rx-850ah3ch)

Case: Thermaltake Tsunami Dream (modified)

Thanks!

I can appreciate that, but the board can take up to 6 cores. I'll keep the i7 960 for now anyway, I don't see the cost being worth that particular upgrade.
