My brother in law recently received a free computer from his company but it doesn't have an operating system. I was wondering if there was anything specific I had to do to create a DVD with the Ubuntu operating system. I was planning on just downloading the OS and burning it onto a DVD. I wanted to double check with you fine folks if that would work. So will just burning a copy and putting it in the optical drive of this computer install the ubuntu OS?

Your answer is absolutely correct.

However
I'm here to help. I could not care less about badges or other virtual pats on the back. As long as I help resolve your issue in any small way, that is all that matters. Don't you just hate people who beg for best answers?

The reason that OPs should be encouraged to mark a problem solved is so that we don't have to answer the same question so many times. I know that when I search a problem I go straight to the answers marked solved and that shows up when you google. How many times have you answered the same question over and over? I know I can type the link to the boot-repair tutorial from memory. How about this, we all agree to encourage to OPs to mark solved all but our own solutions?

Posters are encouraged by the system to mark threads as solved. I see many cases where the marked "best solution", often by someone other than the OP, is not one that I would really agree with. I don't think there is a need for us to encourage OPs to mark "best solutions" and I agree that points whoring is just embarrassing.

Personally, I think the points system - and all those stupid badges - is one of the worst aspects of this forum, and of other ones. This has descended to particularly silly levels since the forums were revamped.
