i am using intel core 2 duo processor. My computer automatically shuts down when i install windows 7 or windows 8 after a certain time.. there is no problem while using xp. why is it so?

Hi,

Most likely a faulty power supply.
Also keep an eye on the CPU temps.

Yes I do had the same problem with my core 2 duo E4500. I installed a slightly larger heat sink that somewhat solved the problem. But ultimately I have go in for an upgrade of mobo and processor because of Windows 8 lol. Gigabyte mobo with AMD FX 6300 6 core processor. Because of too many reinstall and automatic repair I have exceeded maximum limit of automatic authentication of windows 8 by windows server. So hereafter I have to phone up Microsoft help line to activate my windows 8 each time
on reinstallation or repair. Please down load and install speed fan or coretemp software and monitor the CPU temperature.
