Gaming Build on a Budget; I need some help.

Over the next 2 months I will be gutting my computer and building a new one, I will be harvesting some parts from my current computer but I would like some help picking out the other pieces i need that will maximize my gaming potential for under $500

I have read a few guides and they all include parts that i am taking out of mine so I figure maybe ask here and get some tips on better stuff for a little more money.

What I have-
GPU- His 6790 IceQX 1gb
PSU- 500 watt (ocz modxstreamer-pro 500watt)
Disk drives

What I need-
CPU- Something to handle the load my old Q6600 doesnt anymore
MOBO- Good spacing on stuff, cant take my ram out atm because gfx card X0
Case- I am feeling a full size case, mine as it sits is way too cramped as a mid tower.
Ram- I would like 6-10 gb if i can find on sale
HDD-At least 500gb as i have some spares i can use with it.

If i missed anything please lmk. But for the parts that i need I will have $500, cant depend on any sales as its coming from paychecks/tax return and scattered buying.

Here is what I would go with. Use your current HDDs for now, and maybe upgrade to an SSD later on for your OS/Apps. Definitely figure out what brand that PSU is, you may need to budget a little more ($50) for something. You mentioned a full tower case, but I don't think you should spend 20% of your budget on a case. This HAF 912 is pretty roomy for a mid-tower and you shouldn't have any trouble fitting whatever you want in it.

Also not worried about GPU mine can still dish it out untill i can get some more money after this build.

I like Navasco's CPU/Mobo choices much more than Transmaniacon's, but definitely agree with the latter about the case.
The R9-270X is a nice card, but considering what you've got now, I believe you would be satisfied (especially temporarily) with a GTX650Ti Boost (4 tiers higher than what you have) such as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162132 . If your concern over the case was mostly due to poor cable management, you may find the NZXT Source 210 acceptable, for only $40: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146075 .
