Please advise if it is possible to do this when both PCs are Dell with same operating system. Exactly what type of equipt would I need to purchase, if so. If not, tell me that also. Best Buy is suggesting buy new external HD, cables, etc. and then pay them $100 to transfer data. Idea? Comments?

are the drives sata drives? If they are plug the second drive into the computer working computer. windows will see the second drive and will show up in windows as a storage drive. Go into it and copy off the info you want.
If its an ide drive let me know and ill walk you through how to hook it up and get the info off it.
