Systems supports 2gb flash drive but 16gb is working. (did not used to work and ive done nothing to the system)

i have an emg machine on a laptop based system and windows ce specs for the machine says it supports 2gb bootable flash drives. up until a month ago nothing larger than a 2gb stick would work i have tried it but now for some reason my 16gb stick works for both saving and retrieving.
