Does it matter where my programs install?

I noticed my programs install into D:\Program Files. Arent they supposed to download into D:\Program Files (x86) if so, whats my issue?

Windows automatically installs 64 bit software in program files and 32 bit in the x86 folder. This is purely just for organization, you can really install them anywhere.
